Welcome to the official webpages of the research project Between home and nature: urban political ecology of allotment gardening in post-socialist city and its urban impacts.
In this research project, the researchers of the Institute of Sociology of the Czech Academy of Sciences focus on issues related to urban gardening. We research Prague allotments and explore how gardening as an everyday activity of urbanites changed in the last decades under the influence of larger societal changes brought about by the fall of socialism.
- What is the relationship of the everyday experience of gardening and the feeling of being at home in the city?
- What is the link between the allotments and other forms of urban nature?
- What is the approach of urban planning and the politics of urban development to the allotments and how this has changed in time?
- And why people care to garden in the city?
These are just some of the questions we follow up.
